One of the hottest gadgets of the year 2012 is due to be launched sometime in May this year. Nokia looks set to launch a Super Camera Phone that will redefine smartphone form factors for good. If you love taking pictures, then try this. At 41 megapixel, the Nokia 808 PureView offers the highest resolution camera in the current handset market. Basically a Smartphone absorbing a high-end camera.
Capable of taking lower resolution pictures starting at 5MP, it will also give you a range of resolutions to suit your space or quality demands. This handset will appeal to home-made movie geeks like Oren Peli, who in 2009, used a normal camcorder and spent $15,000 producing a film called Paranormal Activity - a sequel that has generated nearly 200 hundred of million dollars in gross sales.
Nokia have also thrown in a high quality microphone and some deadly code that will record those YouTube videos in Full HD at 30 frames per second with 4X zoom, 1920*1080 video resolution and sound levels of up to 140 db. The handset has been equipped with a 41MP Carl Zeiss sensor, a LED video light and a xenon flash with an operating range of up to 3.5mm.
Functioning as a smartphone, camera and a video camera is not easy. To support the handset, Nokia have made sure the Nokia Pureview 808 has some of the latest features like “over the air updates”, Auto Focus and Touch Focus, Face Detection software and automated picture and video location tagging are all included.
Set in a 4 inch touch screen Amoled Corning Gorilla Glass (640 * 360 Pixels) display, this handset is powered by Nokia’s own Symbian Belle.
It also comes with a HDM
I port to connect to your HD TV with support for wireless streaming to other devices. Sharing has been made even easier with the addition of WiFi, Bluetooth and Secure NFC which allows you use your phone as credit card, share pictures etc.
It doesn’t stop there, gaming is handled by a separate graphics processor with OpenGL 2.0 meaning it supports 3D graphics as well.
There is something for everyone in the handset, such as a number of options for music lovers. They have included a Stereo FM radio, Dolby Headphones, 8 channel graphic equalizer and the ability to synchronize between Nokia Music Player and Windows Media Player 11.
They seem to have done a great job with the battery, it has a talk time of 6.5 hours and ta 16 GB internal memory with an external microSD that can support up to 48GB external memory.
Some other features are: Stereo Fm Radio, Integrated GPS receivers, free navigation with Nokia Maps, Compass, Supports flash and unified push email (Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail etc.)
Just to drive the point home, this is what Nokia say – “Nokia Pureview imaging technology sets a new industry standard by whatever measure you use. People will inevitably focus on the 41MP sensor, but the real quantum leap is how the pixels are used to deliver breath-taking image quality at any resolution” – Jo Harlow 2012.
It’s interesting that Smartphones, like normal computers are developing into unique market niches. Examples like the Sony Xperia Play for hardcore gamers, Galaxy Note which is a Tablet/Phone and now Nokia Pureview 808, which is definitely aimed at high quality picture lovers.
