Here we go again. Apple, have just released a quicker version of the iPhone 4 and iOS. The iPhone 4S and iOS 5 now support “Over The Air Updates” which some of the competition have had for some time. They have also added a camera shortcut when the phone is locked, made the social easier by adding twitter and sharing integration and finally, a new antenna system.
iOS has also been updated to take on Google’s Android and Microsoft’s recent release of their updated mobile operating system “Mango”.There is also, supposed to be an iPhone 5 lurking somewhere in the background. This must really frighten the rest. There’s been a lot of talk about Android Phones having “an app for that” as well, and that most Android phones have better hardware.
If the iPhone 4S already destroys this theorem, what will the iPhone 5 do? Now that iPhone is doing what the competition have been doing for years, which is add more mega pixels in the camera, more Gig’s into the processor and improving the operating system. They could also start expanding their smartphone portfolio by updating the iPhone 3 as that shape is still loved by some, or launching a budget smartphone line just like the rest of the competition.
iOS has also been doing its bit by changing the way we listen to music – with the addition of “Airplay” which lets you Stream Your Digital Content like Spotify, Last FM, Napster etc. This technology has already been licensed to Hi-Fi manufacturers like Sonos, JBL and B & W Zeppelin – meaning they can now say their devices are somewhat Powered by iOS.
Meanwhile iOS 5 has been updated on the iPhone 4S with “Siri” ( Siri means secret in Swahili ) it lets you use your voice to send messages, schedule meetings, place phone calls, and more.
Just by talking the way you talk. Siri understands what you say knows what you mean, and even talks back.
This means that Apple is well prepared for the next phase of computing after conquering mobile computing touch navigation.
This post by Joshua shows what Siri is capable of including humor.
